Odoo 17 offers various types of lead times, including Customer Lead Time, Vendor Lead Time, Manufacturing Lead Time, and their respective security lead times. In this blog, we will delve into the specifics of how to optimize production by effectively managing Manufacturing Lead Time.

By scheduling orders according to production timelines, we can prevent any delays in delivering items to customers. Manufacturing Lead Time refers to the number of days required to produce a product from raw materials. When a customer orders a product that isn't in stock, it must be manufactured to ensure timely delivery. This process involves purchasing raw materials from a vendor if they are not available in stock. Therefore, the customer delivery time is calculated by summing the Vendor Lead Time for receiving raw materials, the Manufacturing Lead Time for producing the product, and the delivery time to the customer post-manufacturing.

In Odoo 17, you can configure the Manufacturing Lead Time for the products you are producing directly within the manufacturing app.

To create a new Bill of Materials for a product, simply click the "New" button located at the top left corner.

The form for creating a new Bill of Materials will open, allowing you to enter all necessary details. These include the product you want to manufacture, the quantity, the components required, operations, and other relevant information.

You can either manually enter the number of days it will take to prepare for manufacturing, or you can use the compute option. The compute option utilizes the component with the longest lead time to determine the Days to Prepare Manufacturing Order.

If a component is unavailable in stock, the preparation time for the manufacturing order can be computed based on that component's lead time.

In the BoM Overview smart tab, you can view the lead times of the components, along with the different routes for each component, whether they are manufactured or purchased. Additionally, this tab provides insights into the BoM cost and the overall product cost.
